For those who are considering getting a good dog that’s cute and tiny in appearance, but noble and true in character, the Maltese might just be the right breed for you.
These lovable and appealing little balls of fur were especially bred for companionship. They are just so gentle and innocent that no owner can dare get angry at these cute Maltese. Everything she does just seems to be part of the charm. With her very sparkling eyes and a coat as white as snow, the friendly Maltese is just too irresistible.
These little creatures know nothing else but to love everything and everyone around them. They should have been called “Love Dogs” just because they’re so lovable and they just love loving! The Maltese should be loved and cared for as much as she loves you. People with big egos don’t deserve to have these angelic dogs.
Even when around strangers, the Maltese never fails to show them affection. But above everything and everyone else, the apple of her eyes will always be that #1 person in her heart, her owner. She will make every effort to please you and make you happy. Now, isn’t that just the sweetest thing ever?
The Maltese would definitely excite young children because of her sweet appearance, but it is not very suitable to leave this delicate dog to children younger than 10 years old. Especially without adult supervision, it would be hard to monitor rough playing between the kids and the very small Maltese. She is so fragile that jumping off a small height -- such as a chair or a sofa -- could break her tiny legs. And you don’t want this to happen to that adorable little creature.
Although it’s all cuteness and sweetness at this point, the Maltese can have serious behaviour problems along the way. This could arise if you get distracted by her charm and loving nature and forget to teach her proper manners. Although this dog is already very loving and gentle, there is still a need for training her to obey you and behave whenever you’re out. This is done best when she is still young.
When you find your Maltese chewing on your things at home or messing everything up, the last thing you would want to do is yell and punish that adorable little thing and break her heart -- that knows nothing else but to love. And by the time she realizes that what she’s doing is fine and that she doesn’t get punished for it, problems on behavior arises.
Just remember that you just have to be kind yet firm with this dog. Discipline and obedience training -- that isn’t harsh -- is necessary in order for you to keep that loving relationship between you and your Maltese.
